Tourism Cares Experience the Industry Student Program
The Tourism Cares scholarship recipients not only receive a monetary award but are also invited to attend the Tourism Cares Experience the Industry Student Program at the annual National Tour Association Convention. In 2009 the program is being held in Reno, Nevada Saturday, November 14th through Tuesday, November 17th. Students shadow mentors (tour operators, tour suppliers, and destination marketing executives) during their actual business appointments. They also participate in roundtable discussions with travel and tourism industry professionals to learn more about various positions and career paths. Students also help Tourism Cares with its philanthropic activities during the convention.
Scholarship Application Policy:
A student may apply for up to two different Tourism Cares scholarships per academic year.
Tourism Cares requires the student to request an official copy of his/her transcript be sent directly from the applicant’s school to Tourism Cares at 275 Turnpike Street, Suite 307, Canton, MA 02021, USA, Attention: Transcript. Only one copy of the transcript is required even if the student is applying for two scholarships. It is the responsibility of the student to ensure that the transcript arrives by the deadline date. It often takes 2-4 weeks for official transcripts to be sent, so please take that into consideration when requesting it from your school.
Incomplete applications will not be considered.
Scholarship Award Policy:
A student may win only one scholarship award from Tourism Cares per academic year (meaning fall and spring semesters-not calendar year).
Each undergraduate scholarship award can be used to cover expenses for tuition, books, and educational fees only.
Each graduate scholarship award can be used to cover expenses for tuition, books, educational fees, and research-related expenses only.
Eligibility Requirements:
Undergraduate students must be enrolled in a tourism-specific program or area of focus, or be enrolled in a hospitality program with a focus on travel and tourism.
Graduate students must be able to demonstrate a clear focus on and commitment to the tourism-subject area. Various states and provinces, private entities, and corporations make these awards possible.
To be eligible, students may apply during the spring semester for a scholarship that covers the fall semester of the calendar year of application. (Note: The student must still be enrolled in school that fall semester.) For example, students may apply for scholarships during the spring semester of 2009 for a scholarship that will cover the fall semester of 2009 and spring of 2010.
