Tourism Cares Special Grant Programs and Recipients
|
|
Tourism Cares has various special grant programs. The Special Grant Recipients are chosen by internal selection, rather than by application as with the Worldwide Grant Program.
Some of the Special Grant Programs include:
Globus American Icons Program:
Beginning in 2004, Globus, a worldwide leader in touring travel and vacation packages, based in Littleton, Colorado, in partnership with Tourism Cares, has targeted historic 'American Icons' for preservation and restoration funding. The selected sites are highlights of some of Globus' most popular North American vacations and represent the diverse geography and beauty of the United States.

Gulf Coast Restoration Fund Program:
Tourism Cares started the Gulf Coast Restoration Fund Program within weeks of Hurricanes Katrina and Rita hitting the Gulf Coast. Tourism Cares has sold green wristbands stating “Tourism Cares for the Gulf Coast” at various tourism industry events and conferences since the disaster in 2005. The donations, earmarked to “make a difference” in the rebuilding and restoration of the Gulf Coast’s historic and cultural sites. They were fully matched by TripMate, and partially matched by several organizations, including Ensemble Travel, Tauck World Discovery, VacationWired.com and Tourism Cares itself, to increase their economic impact.
