Tourism Cares for New Orleans, April 17-19

Thank you to everyone who participated in the 2008
Tourism Cares for New Orleans event.
In one day, our volunteers were able to accomplish major repairs and upkeep that it would have take the site’s staff several months to complete.
The restoration of Louis Armstrong Park had a significant impact on the community. The project highlighted the legacy and dignity of Louis Armstrong and all of the jazz greats who honed their skills performing along the African-American Jazz Corridor – an area of New Orleans stretching from Storyville to the Eagle Saloon on North Rampart St. Together with Congo Square, this area represents the single most important location of African-American heritage in our country – truly hallowed ground – the legacy of which must be preserved for generations to come.
The efforts of the Tourism Cares for New Orleans volunteers to restore this site not only restored its physical appearance. Much more importantly, it recognized its historical importance, honored its forefathers, and helped the local community to reconnect with one of its most important cultural touchstones.
