Project at City Palace Museum to Create an Architectural History Exhibit of Udaipur since 1559

Udaipur, the historic 16th-century lake city considered “the Venice of the East” in the Rajasthan state of India, is a major destination for domestic and international tourists. The city’s architectural and cultural heritage, combined with its unique geographical setting with lakes and surrounding mountain range, attracts 800,000 tourists a year. The 16th-century City Palace Museum is the most historic structure in Udaipur and serves as a repository for the House of Mewar, the world’s oldest surviving dynasty, spanning 76 generations. The Tourism Cares grant will help with the creation of a special exhibit examining the architectural evolution of the City Palace and the City of Udaipur since its founding in 1559.
