Project to Restore Frederic Church’s Persian-styled Stencils in Olana’s Court Hall

The Hudson River School, a uniquely American art movement, flourished during the mid-19th century. The school is known for landscape paintings influenced by the Romanticism of that era. Olana, one of the most important artistic residences, is the Persian-inspired home, studio and park designed by famed Hudson River School artist Frederic Edwin Church.
The main house is filled with elaborate painted stencils interpreted by Church from Persian designs in the 1870s. The Tourism Cares grant helped with the restoration of these intricate and beautiful painted stencils.
