The 2010 Tourism Cares Academic Scholarship
Opportunities, primarily for undergraduate and graduate students of travel and
tourism or hospitality are now open for application. PLEASE READ ALL THE INFORMATION ON THIS PAGE CAREFULLY BEFORE GOING TO
THE STARS ONLINE PLATFORM

TIMELINE for 2010 Tourism Cares
Academic ASTA and NTA Scholarship Application:
APPLICATION DEADLINE: Thursday, April 15, 2010, 5:00 p.m. EST
ANNOUNCEMENT OF SCHOLARSHIP
RECIPIENTS: late May 2010
SCHOLARSHIP FUNDS ARE DISBURSED:
during summer 2010
A recipient must be enrolled in school fall semester 2010 to be eligible to receive an award. Checks in U. S. dollars are sent
directly to recipients’ school financial aid office to be deposited directly
into the students’ accounts to be applied to the fall 2010 semester (except for
internship or graduate research scholarship recipients).
2010 Eligibility Requirements:
- Undergraduate students must be enrolled in a tourism-specific
program or area of focus, or be enrolled in a hospitality program with a
focus on travel and tourism.
- Graduate students must be able to demonstrate a clear focus on and
commitment to the tourism-subject area.
- Students may apply for scholarships during
the spring semester of 2010 for a scholarship that will cover the fall
semester of 2010.
2010 Scholarship Application Policies:

Application takes place through the
Tourism Cares STARS Online Scholarship Application platform, which is designed,
once you have registered, to help you determine which scholarships you may
eligible for, what documents are requested for different scholarships, and how
to apply. The ONLY web browser a person can use to access the STARS platform is
Internet Explorer Version 6 or higher.

A student may apply for up to two different Tourism Cares scholarships
per academic year; a student may only apply for one ASTA scholarship and one NTA
scholarship for which he/she is eligible (NOT two ASTA ones and NOT two NTA
ones). The only exceptions are for the ASTA David J. Hallissey Memorial
Undergraduate or Graduate Internship and the NTA Mayflower Tours Patrick Murphy
Undergraduate or Graduate Internship where you may ONLY apply for one total.
- Tourism Cares requires the student to request an official copy of his/her transcript be sent directly from the applicant’s school to Tourism Cares at 275 Turnpike Street, Suite 307, Canton, MA 02021, USA, Attention: Transcript. Only one copy of the transcript is required even if the student is applying for two scholarships. It is the responsibility of the student to ensure that the transcript arrives by the deadline date. It often takes up to 4 weeks for official transcripts to be sent, so please request your transcript as soon as you know you are applying.
- Incomplete applications will not be considered.
2010 Scholarship Award Policy:
- A student may win only one scholarship award from Tourism Cares per academic year (meaning fall and spring semesters-not calendar year).
- Each undergraduate scholarship award can be used to cover expenses for tuition, books, and educational fees only.
- Each graduate scholarship award can be used to cover expenses for tuition, books, educational fees, and research-related expenses only.
