Tourism Cares Scholarship Recipients

The Tourism Cares Scholarship Review Committee selects the NTA and ASTA Scholarship recipients each year from hundreds of applicants. In addition to offering the NTA and ASTA Academic Scholarships, Tourism Cares also offers the ASTA Academic and Professional Development Scholarships.

In the last 20 years, Tourism Cares has provided more than 450 students with scholarships and other awards valued at more than $1.5 million. Tourism Cares expects to post the 2010 Academic Scholarship offerings and application information on its website early 2010.

2009 Scholarship Recipients

Tourism Cares will award $41,000 in NTA Scholarships this year to students throughout the United States, and also in Canada. The scholarships are awarded annually to students pursuing travel, tourism, and hospitality degrees at accredited colleges and universities.

“It is a top priority of Tourism Cares to provide financial support and educational opportunities for travel, tourism, and hospitality students.” said Bruce Beckham, Executive Director at Tourism Cares. He added, “It is particularly important during these challenging times.”

In addition to monetary awards ranging from $750 to $4,000, the academic scholarship recipients will also be invited to attend the annual NTA Convention in Reno, Nevada mid-November, where they will shadow tourism professional mentors, participate in convention workshops, and help with fund raising events.

2007 Scholarship Recipients
Tourism Cares awarded more than $50,000 in scholarships to students in 2007. In addition to the academic scholarships, Tourism Cares also awarded six service-learning scholarships to transport and host students who volunteered at the Tourism Cares for America's Volunteer Project in Virginia City, Nevada and to attend the annual NTA Annual Convention.
