Tourism Cares for Mystic Seaport

On Friday, May 5, 2011, 400 Tourism Industry volunteers came together to make a huge improvement to the Mystic Seaport Museum in Mystic, CT.

According to the Mystic Seaport staff, the Tourism Cares volunteers completed:

• more than 1 mile of fence painting, using approximately 135 gallons of paint
• 30 additional paint projects on the historic buildings and sailing vessels, including the entire hull of the Joseph Conrad, Mystic Seaport’s renowned 111-foot, full-rigged ship
• major landscaping projects utilizing 50 cubic years of mulch as well as spreading hundreds of pounds of crushed oyster shells throughout the property.

In addition, Tourism Cares presented a $10,000 Special Grant to help the Museum maintain its grounds and infrastructure.  Volunteers came from 27 states and 3 countries. In one day, volunteers worked hard to save Mystic Seaport more than $37,000 in labor. They really helped in fulfilling our mission to preserve the travel experience for future generations!
