Development & Marketing Associate

Role and Responsibilities

The Development & Marketing Associate plays a vital role in the growth of Tourism Cares’ corporate membership, as well as the effectiveness of our stewardship and communications.  You will drive many capabilities of a robust sales/fundraising program, including website management, member and community communications via email and social channels, database and contact management, managing sales pipelines and research, and marketing material creation and dissemination.

This position reports to the Director of Advancement, and works closely with all team members. As part of the sales and marketing team, your duties will include:

  • Help develop and maintain a strong and functional contact management system(in Salesforce) for members and prospects.
  • Manage relationships and communications(such as acknowledgement letters) with sponsors and donors of all non-membership and non-event programs,
  • Help administer member and partner relationships
  • Direct management of charity auctions, both event-based and online, as well as supporting other fundraising events
  • Manage the sales pipeline and support timely action and prospecting by the sales and executive team; provide weekly sales forecasts
  • Specific prospect research to identify needs, preferences, and sales angles
  • Help develop and implement sales meetings
  • Stay current with client needs, competition, and industry trends
  • Market research to identify new sales opportunities
  • Assist with sales/marketing and advertising campaigns
  • Maintain active industry participation and membership in networking organizations

Attributes & Qualifications

  • 2-5 years professional success in sales, business development, fundraising or marketing
  • Familiarity with the entire sales cycle, from identification and prospecting to closing the deal and relationship management
  •  If from the corporate sector, some nonprofit organization experience or volunteerism is preferred but not necessary; travel industry experience a plus
  • Working knowledge of DRM systems for prospecting/fundraising; experience with Salesforce a major plus
  • Strong computer skills, especially for website CMS (Squarespace), online communications services (MailChimp) Google Apps and MS Office; familiarity with InDesign and Photoshop a big plus
  • Strong organizational and follow-up skills
  • A Bachelors of Arts degree, or equivalent experience
  • A self-starter attitude and the ability to work with guidance but also independently;
  • Excellent communication skills that prioritize clarity and storytelling
  • Flexibility to travel for meetings and volunteer events
  • Good humor and joy in the work and in teamwork
