Venue Accessibility
We are committed to advancing our industry in meaningful and responsible ways. This means working closely with our local partners, vendors, and attendees to shift how we plan and produce events, moving beyond the status quo, together. Below are some of the steps we are taking at this program:
Community Partnerships
We’ve worked closely with our partners to source local vendors, community-based organizations, venues, and speakers to ensure that this event directly benefits the Miami community and supports those who call it home.
Menu Creation & Food Waste Management
We collaborate with our partners to serve fresh, locally inspired meals that are inclusive and thoughtfully sourced. At the same time, we remain mindful of our environmental and community impact. To support this, we have taken the following actions:
Created menus that reflect local culture and meet a wide range of dietary needs.
Worked with venues to accurately estimate food quantities and minimize food waste.
Designed low-carbon menus with limited meat and animal products. Friday’s lunch will be fully vegan, catered by Vegan Cuban Cuisine, a Meaningful Travel Map Impact Partner.
Partnered with a local composting company and Meaningful Travel Map Impact Partner Fertile Earthworm to collect and compost food waste from Friday’s lunch and reception.Worked with onsite vendors to eliminate single-use items and use reusable serviceware. We have provided compostable plates, utensils, and napkins that can be processed by our composting partner. We ask attendees to properly dispose of waste in compost, recycling, and landfill bins
Asked offsite vendors not to use disposable products or single-use plastics or products.
Encouraged attendees to bring reusable water bottles; refill stations will be provided onsite.
We also wish to acknowledge that the event is not zero-waste but we are committed to finding new methods for reducing waste while still offering a meaningful experience for all attendees.
Reusable & Recyclable Materials
We are also reducing overall event waste through actions such as:
Name badges are printed on recycled paper.
Neck wallets are reused from previous events to reduce waste.
Partners are asked not to distribute giveaways unless items are locally sourced, community-supportive, and not single use.
All event materials are shared digitally to reduce paper usage and environmental impact.
Transportation
Attendees are encouraged to use public transportation when possible.
Tourism Cares staff will also use public transit when available.
The closing reception venue was selected in part due to its distance from the morning venue to reduce transportation needs.
Offsetting Our Footprint
All attendees and staff travel and accommodations are offset through Sustainable Travel International to help mitigate environmental impact.
Accessibility & Inclusion
Events are designed to be inclusive and welcoming to all participants, with the understanding that true sustainability must also include equity and accessibility for every stakeholder. Additional details about our accessibility efforts can be found in details above.
