Education Sessions
The Peru Summit education program is designed to bring the lessons of meaningful travel to life. Rather than sitting in conference rooms, participants will learn through immersive experiences, conversations with local leaders and community partners, facilitated discussions, and peer exchange.
Along the journey, we'll explore some of tourism's most important opportunities and challenges, from community-based tourism and conservation to cultural heritage, destination stewardship, and responsible product development. Dedicated workshop sessions will help attendees connect what they're seeing on the ground to their own business goals, uncover opportunities for partnership, and identify practical actions they can take long after the Summit ends.
Participants will leave not only inspired by Peru, but equipped with new ideas, relationships, and opportunities to help shape a more meaningful future for travel.
Community-Based Tourism: From Good Intentions to Market Access
What does it take for community-led tourism experiences to move beyond niche offerings and become viable components of international itineraries? Through examples from Peru, participants will explore the barriers and opportunities that influence market access, product readiness, and long-term success for local tourism enterprises.
Women Entrepreneurs Shaping the Future of Tourism
Across Peru, women are preserving cultural traditions, creating economic opportunities, and leading tourism businesses that benefit their communities. This session will explore the role of women entrepreneurs in building more inclusive tourism economies and the opportunities for the travel industry to support and amplify their work.
Indigenous Tourism, Cultural Heritage, and Authentic Storytelling
As traveler interest in cultural experiences continues to grow, how can the industry ensure tourism supports rather than commodifies culture? Participants will examine examples of Indigenous-led tourism and discuss the role of travel in preserving heritage, elevating local voices, and creating more authentic visitor experiences.
Nature, Conservation, and Tourism as a Tool for Stewardship
From the Andes to the Amazon, Peru offers powerful examples of how tourism can contribute to conservation and local livelihoods. This conversation will explore how tourism businesses, destinations, and travelers can support environmental stewardship while creating meaningful experiences that connect visitors to place.
Beyond Machu Picchu: Visitor Dispersal and Reimagining Destination Success
Many destinations are grappling with how to balance visitor demand with community well-being and resource protection. Using Peru as a case study, participants will explore strategies for dispersing visitors, developing new tourism corridors, and redefining success beyond visitation numbers alone.
Building Meaningful Travel Experiences for Today's Traveler
Travelers are increasingly seeking experiences that provide deeper connections to destinations, cultures, and communities. This session will examine what responsible product development looks like in practice and how travel companies can identify, evaluate, and integrate experiences that create value for both travelers and host communities.
Making a Commitment
A signature element of every Tourism Cares Summit, the Commitment Session challenges participants to reflect on what they've learned and identify a tangible action they will take following the event. Whether through product development, purchasing decisions, partnerships, advocacy, or internal initiatives, attendees leave with a personal commitment to advance more meaningful travel.
All sessions are subject to change.
